Confidentiality
The
staff of Student Counseling Services knows the importance of you being
able to sit down and share your innermost concerns with a professional
counselor in a confidential setting. We operate under the
guidelines of professional counselors prescribed by the Virginia Board
of Counseling. Whatever you share with us will not be shared with
anyone, including faculty, staff, students, parents, or persons outside
Student Counseling Services without your permission. Exceptions to
the policy are made in cases of certain emergencies and when other legal
and ethical exceptions to confidentiality require that the therapist
take responsible action.

Policy Statement: Please
note that Student Counseling Services (SCS) discourages the use of
e-mail communication between counselors and clients. E-mail is not
a confidential form of communication, nor is it an appropriate medium
for urgent or crisis messages. SCS does not provide
counseling by e-mail. If you consider your situation to be
a crisis, contact SCS during regular business hours or use the after
hours emergency contact
information.
